Ride starts at 8:30 this weekend.

The points from last weekend are still in the works, we had a protest, so as soon as that is sorted out, the big board will be updated.

Same gig this Saturday, 40ish miles, 4 attack zones. We will throw in the Knopster county line sprint on Campground Road, once everyone is past the store at the Y it is game on. The line is the Forsyth County line sign on the right. Points to first place only.

The winner on the day will receive some Jittery Joe’s swag, maybe a t-shirt, hat, or mug.

Big Joe Spring Training Ride - April 5

The pressure of wearing the leader’s jersey got to Max, so he decided to sleep in and not defend his title.

So we have a new leader, Nick from Cannondale/Allset Racing has taking over the golden fleece.

Big Joe Spring Training Ride - March 29

The first week with attack zones went well. After one week the overall leader is Max.

Big Joe Spring Training Ride - March 22

Welcome to the Big Joe Spring Training Ride.

This is a group ride with a little fun and challenge mixed in. If you are looking to increase your fitness some, challenge yourself, and get a little piece of lactic acid pie, then sign your name on the line.

Taking inspiration from the Winter Bike League, there will now be attack zones. The attack zones are designate areas where it is every man, woman and child for themselves. The pace is determined by whomever is on the front driving the train. If you want, you can try to hang on, or, sit back and ride your ride.

There will be points awarded for the first three to cross the line. Points will be saved and tabulated and at some point in the future we will give out prizes to the overall leader and other notables.

There are some rules, if you choose not to follow the rules, then you will be kindly asked to not participate. Please make sure you know the rules, you don’t want Rusty angered.

Here are the rules:

  1. No attacking before the marker, a big orange line in the road.
  2. If you are strong enough to sprint make sure you take your turn at the front or there will be consequences.
  3. At the end of the attack zone, another big line in the road, we will STOP and wait for everyone. After the group is back together we will continue at a nice tempo, as a group. Please note if you are the last person so we know when to ride.
  4. You do not have to participate. We will wait at the end of the attack zone.
  5. This is intended to be fun and an opportunity for people to work on fitness, so be safe and courteous. DO NOT CROSS THE DOUBLE YELLOW AT ANYTIME. If you are seen crossing the double yellow you will be fined.
  6. Although it is every man, woman, and child for themselves, working out a deal with a fellow rider is not forbidden.
  7. There are no UCI or USCF officials, although we do have Rusty, so you are on the honor system. Remember, this is for fun so if it comes down to a sprint, don’t hack someone’s line just for an extra point. Be safe.
  8. If you are on a TT bike or have aero bars please do not ride in the aero position while in the attack zone.
  9. If you are part of the Jittery Joe’s Coffee Development Team, pull.

I am not eligible for points, but I will take part in the fun. However, if I don’t get the points, then you don’t get the points, get the point? I will lead you out (if I can) for a small fee.

This week we will use the standard 40 mile route we have used during the winter rides. The route may change from week to week, or it may not. The start of the attack zones are noted with a green marker, the end of each attack zone is notes with a red marker.

#2. Gaddis Rd. - Wrights Mill Road: 6,4,2
#3. Mountain Rd. - Top of Freemanville: 10,8,6
#4. Providence - Mayfield Road: 8,6,4

Any woman in the top three receives double points. If you place, make sure you let me or Rusty know so we can keep track. Points will be saved and totaled for a grand prize.

Please ride as a group when not in the attack zones. Please be safe. Please ride no more than two wide. Be courteous to all vehicles and cyclist. Do not litter. DO NOT CROSS THE DOUBLE YELLOW.

Big Joe Spring Training Ride - March 15

The first edition of the Bog Joe Spring Training Ride was met with snow and freezing temperatures. A few of us braved the conditions, but that lasted about an hour.

This week the ride will use the same route as the winter ride. If people are interested they can break off and do the 50 mile loop. Pace should be around 17mph.

Next week we use the official Big Joe Spring Training Ride route. Stay tuned.

Big Joe Spring Training Ride - March 8

This weekend we will kickoff the spring training ride. We are still ironing out the kinks of the new route, so this weekend we will use the winter route. 40 miles with an option to do 50. Pace will be a little faster, maybe 17 - 18. For those of you that want to get a little intensity in, we will ramp it up going up Batesville to Sugar Pike, we will regroup there and continue as a group. We will also ramp it up some on Arbor Mill to Trinity Chruch, we will regroup at Trinity Church.

Please do not ride more than 2 wide, don’t cross the double yellow, and say hello to Rusty.

Big Joe Winter Training Ride - March 1

This is it, the last Big Joe Winter Training Ride of the year.

This Saturday will be the same game, 40 miles and 50 miles.

The Spring edition of the Jittery Joe’s Saturday ride will begin March 8. If you have an idea for the spring ride, or have ride preferences, comments, etc., leave a comment.
